It is used for the study of the different organs of the abdomen and pelvis (liver, kidneys, intestine, prostate, ovaries...).

For its correct preparation, a previous fasting of 6 hours is needed (3 in diabetic patients), not being necessary the suspension of any treatment and being able to drink water during the 6 hours of fasting.

About 40 minutes before the test, you will be asked to drink water, or we will provide you with an oral contrast (composed of barium or iodine). The type of oral contrast will depend on the pathology we want to study.

Once prepared and inside the machine, the scanning time does not usually exceed 15 minutes.

If there is no contraindication, it is very likely that we will inject an iodinated contrast through the vein, which will provide us with a better characterization of the organs and visualization of the different pathologies.
